설탕 대신 쓰는 단맛

설탕보다 300배 달다. 흡수되지만 몸이 쓰지 못해 되지 않고 소변으로 그대로 나간다.

1970년대 쥐 방광암 논란이 컸는데, 사람에게는 일어나지 않는 기전임이 밝혀져 2000년에 발암물질 목록에서 빠졌다. 오해가 아직 남아 있는 감미료다.
