In the body

Forms rhodopsin in the retina, maintains mucosal linings and supports immune cell differentiation.

Watch out for

Excess retinol (liver, supplements) accumulates and is toxic; take special care in pregnancy. Beta-carotene has almost no overdose toxicity.
