Trans fat
Definition
Fat formed when vegetable oil is partially hydrogenated. Can appear in margarine, shortening and some fried or baked goods.
In the body
Raises LDL cholesterol and lowers HDL, increasing cardiovascular risk.
Watch out for
Korean labeling rules allow less than 0.2 g per serving to be printed as 0, so a listed 0 is not always truly zero.
