A naturally derived sweetener extracted from stevia leaves. 200–300 times sweeter than sugar.
In the body
Broken down by gut bacteria into steviol and then excreted. Almost no effect on blood sugar.
Watch out for
Enzyme-treated stevia has glucose attached to reduce bitterness. Natural origin does not change how sweeteners shape a taste for sweetness.
