Definition
The seed of a legume. Despite the name it is not a tree nut but a bean.
In the body
Storage proteins such as Ara h 1, 2 and 3 are the cause; they survive heating and tiny amounts can trigger anaphylaxis. Children outgrow it less often than egg or milk allergy.

Common in snacks, cereal, chocolate, sauces, Korean street food (peanut powder), Chinese and Southeast Asian dishes. It is among the items most often flagged as may contain.
