Caffeine
Definition
The stimulant in coffee, tea, chocolate and energy drinks. Korea's MFDS requires a high-caffeine label at 0.15 mg per mL or more.
In the body
Blocks adenosine receptors to reduce drowsiness and raises heart rate and urine output. Its half-life is about 5 hours.
Watch out for
Recommended daily limits are 400 mg for adults, 300 mg in pregnancy, and 2.5 mg per kg of body weight for adolescents.
